Nicole Ari Parker, an American actor, who has been featured in films and television and on stage is best known for playing Teri Joseph, a fiery attorney in the show on Showtime called Soul Food. Her name is currently her married name, Nikki Kodjoe. As a child, she was a naturally talented actor. In an Maryland competition for students in high school, she won the award for the Best Actress. She earned her acting degree from the New York University after working at 'The Washington Ballet Company' as well as performing in the theatre. Her debut role as a character in The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love fetched the most admiration. Following this, she starred in movies like "Boogie Nights Spark" and "Blue Streak". Contractor was born at Mumbai in India, was raised in Nigeria up until she turned seven. She'd been exposed to many different travels and cultures from a early age. After boarding school, during seven years of London the family moved to Toronto Canada where she lived for the majority of her childhood and early adulthood. Contractor studied classical ballet in Toronto. Additionally, she excelled academically. She studied at the Etobicoke School of the Arts in Toronto, a school of the arts that focuses on dance and theater. Contractor decided to take acting seriously at age of 16, after ten years of dancing. After graduating high school, Contractor accepted a scholarship at the University of Toronto to pursue an undergraduate degree in sociology and psychology. Additionally, she earned an advanced degree in theatre. After one semester at the University, Contractor went to an open audition for the production Pericles at the world-class, world-renowned Stratford Shakespeare Festival [Ontario, Canada and got the role of lead. The year 2002 was a great one for her. Canadian reviewers praised her performance in 92 productions of Pericles. She accepted the invitation to enroll in Stratford's conservatory. This is a course where only four men and eight women are able to take the 20-week crash program in classical theatre. Contractor was offered a slot for the following season. She was also offered the part of Hermia.
